Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) services for children and adults

ENT focuses on conditions involving the sinuses, larynx (voice box), oral cavity, and upper pharynx (mouth and throat), as well as structures of the neck and face. It’s often referred to as otolaryngology. CMH offers an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor right here in Cloquet.

Dr. John Schmitt and his team offer personalized treatments that promote good health and relieve discomfort from the following:

  • Ears – Balance disorders, ear infections, hearing loss, and tinnitus (ear noise)
  • Nose – Allergies, nasal obstruction, polyps, and smell disorders
  • Throat – Swallowing disorders and conditions involving the larynx, throat, and voice
  • Head and neck – Infections, tumors, and facial trauma or deformities

The practitioners at our ENT clinic diagnose and treat specialty-specific disorders and primary care problems in both children and adults. Patients of all ages are welcome to make an appointment.

Common ENT procedures

ENT doctors are trained in otolaryngology—the medical and surgical management of various ENT conditions. Here are some of the most common ENT procedures Dr. Schmitt and his team perform at CMH:

  • Ear surgeries such as mastoidectomy, which removes infected mastoid air cells from the skull; stapedectomy, which improves progressive hearing loss; tympanoplasty, which treats perforated eardrums, improves hearing, and treats disease; and ventilating tube management, which keeps infection-causing fluids from affecting the eardrum
  • Nasal endoscopy, an outpatient procedure that explores the inside of the nose and sinuses to identify structural abnormalities, swollen areas, and infections
  • Tonsillectomy, a form of surgery where the tonsils are removed due to severe tonsillitis or related complications

Don’t hesitate to contact us with questions or for more information on our ENT treatments. Dr. Schmitt will see patients at Raiter Clinic in Cloquet on the second, third and fourth Fridays of each month.  To schedule appointments, please call 218-878-7626.
