Preparing for your surgery

To ensure your safety and comfort, we’ve outlined pre-surgery guidelines for all types of procedures. More specific instructions—including when you can eat or drink before your surgery—will be given by a nurse via phone call seven days prior to your surgery.

  • Take a shower or bath before coming to the hospital
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing and flat shoes
  • Leave all valuables at home, including jewelry, wedding rings, and cash
  • Bring any paperwork your surgeon gave you
  • Contact lenses and glasses will be removed before your surgery. Please bring a case for safekeeping.
  • If you use any home medical equipment—such as a CPAP for sleep apnea or continuous glucose monitor for diabetes—please bring it with you

Parking and entrance information

CMH is located off Highway 33 in Cloquet. Parking in the main lot is always free. Once you’ve parked or been dropped-off, please enter the door marked Emergency Room/Urgent Care. You’ll register inside and be directed to our surgery center.

Some surgeries require an overnight stay in the hospital. After your surgery, you will be moved from the recovery area to the inpatient floor, where you’ll recover in the comfort of a private room.

Local accommodations

CMH offers lodging discounts for out-of-town patients and their families. Both hotels offer free Wi-Fi, complimentary breakfast, and a five minute travel time to CMH. Mention CMH when booking to secure a special nightly rate.

FAQs
What do I do if I’m sick before my surgery?

Please contact us at 218-499-6757 during regular business hours. After hours and on weekends, please call 218-879-4641 and ask to speak to the house supervisor.

Can I take my prescriptions before surgery?

Your primary care provider and/or specialist will review your medications at your pre-operative appointment. A nurse from our surgical services team will also review your medications during a pre-operative call approximately seven days prior to your surgery.

What should I bring with me on the day of surgery?

Bring any paperwork your surgeon gave you and any home medical equipment—such as a CPAP for sleep apnea or continuous glucose monitor for diabetes. Please leave all valuables at home, including jewelry, wedding rings, and cash.
