What is an Oncologist/Hematologist?

Oncology and Hematology are unfamiliar words for many people not in the medical profession. Here’s a simple breakdown:

  • An Oncologist is a doctor who diagnoses and treats cancers.
  • A Hematologist is a doctor who diagnoses and treats blood disorders and cancers, such as anemia, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, leukemia, and lymphoma.

An Oncologist/Hematologist is trained to treat a variety of cancers, including blood cancers.
