The Business Office Generalist will be a float position that will have the knowledge of a Switchboard Operator /Receptionist, Patient Access Representative, Customer Account Rep, and Data Processor. This position must represent Community Memorial Hospital with the highest standard of customer service, compassion and perform all duties in a manner consistent with our mission, values and CMH service standards. The Business Office Generalist is responsible for operating a multi-line switchboard and performing receptionist functions for the facility. Often the first point of contact and requires knowledge of the facility’s operations in order to direct people and callers appropriately. Registration duties ensuring that the most accurate patient data is obtained and populated into the patient record, be a personal representative able to answer questions on patient accounts and billing policies. Process claims to government payers. Resolve denials, errors, and credit balances; submit appeals; manage recurring accounts; compliant billing according to regulations. Responsible for posting charges, payments, and adjustments to patient accounts in the Meditech database via the Billing/Accounts Receivable module. Generate bills and prepare reports. Monitor account status according to facility policy and reimbursement. This worker has an exceptional attention to detail and maintains knowledge and competence with insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines as well as federal, state and accreditation agencies.
Requirements: Requires knowledge of routine hospital procedures and medical terminology. Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with tactful, courteous customer relations; must have ability and working knowledge of typing skills, calculator, adding machine, switchboard, general business office skills; computer word processing course or experience required; 1 year of business office experience preferred. Must demonstrate problem solving in routine and emergency situations; have basic mathematical comprehension in order to perform cash transactions; ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with patients, physicians, hospital staff and insurance companies. Requires competent written and verbal communication skills. Should have knowledge of insurance processing and how charges relate to that process.
