Inpatient Care at the Cloquet Hospital

Inpatient care at CMH

Whether you’re recovering from an unexpected illness/injury or from a planned surgery, here’s what you’ll need to know about your stay at CMH.

Our facilities

CMH’s 25-bed inpatient floor is a comfortable, quiet place to recover. All patient rooms are private with an adjoining, accessible private bathroom. The inpatient floor also has a spacious family meeting/waiting room.

Your Care Team

Depending on your personal needs, your care team may include: a hospitalist (doctor), nursing staff, a social worker, respiratory therapist, pharmacist, and specialized rehabilitation providers such as an occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech therapist, or wound care provider.

This multi-disciplinary team meets daily to discuss your progress and care plan to ensure you have the resources you need to recover.

Your Meals

CMH’s Nutrition Services department provides three meals a day, including a variety of build-your-own and daily special options. Our registered dietitians will ensure that any special dietary needs are taken care of.

Visitors

Support from your loved ones is an important part of your recovery. Patients are welcome to have visitors. Recommended visiting hours are 8 AM-4 PM.

We know you love your furry companion(s), but no pet visitors are allowed in the hospital for safety reasons.

Patient Activities

A hospital stay can be a stressful or overwhelming experience—especially if it’s a lengthy stay. CMH’s Volunteer Services Organization provides patients with activities to provide leisure and a sense of community. Volunteers are available to play card games, read, or simply chat with patients.

Your Stay at CMH: Frequently Asked Questions

Advance Care Planning

Advance Care Planning is the process of preparing for a time when you may not be able to make your own medical decisions. Advance Care Planning allows you to voice your medical choices and designate a health care agent in a legal document called a Health Care Directive.

A Health Care Directive is a legal document of medical preferences signed and witnessed or notarized. This document allows you to indicate medical preferences, including:

  • Designating power to a health care agent
  • Preference about life-sustaining treatments if you were to become permanently unconscious
  • Organ Donation
  • Additional personal instructions

A health care agent (sometimes referred to as a power of attorney for healthcare) is a trusted person you choose to make healthcare decisions on your behalf if you become unable to.

What types of decisions can a health care agent make?

  • When to start and stop treatments
  • Place of care and care team
  • Care of body after death
