Infusion therapy is an alternative to oral treatments. This means that if someone can’t take traditional oral medications, or if they need medication to go directly into the bloodstream, infusion therapy may be an ideal fit.
IV pumps are designed to administer medication directly into the bloodstream. Infusions take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the treatment.
While infusion therapy may sound intimidating, it isn’t supposed to be scary or overwhelming. This is where our experts come in. Our Infusion Therapy department will work with each patient based on their unique needs to ensure a seamless, reassuring process
Infusion therapy provides infusions such as chemotherapy treatments, fluids for hydration, antibiotics, and blood products for various immune diseases and blood disorders.
The Infusion Therapy department at CMH also offers central intravenous lines and line maintenance, along with dressing changes and wound care.
Our nursing staff are trained to treat chronic and surgically-created wounds that are not healing with conventional therapies. Treatments include negative pressure wound therapy, which involves placing a special type of sponge over the wound, draping the sponge with special material, and vacuum-sealing it to promote healing.
Infusion therapy can help treat conditions like cancer, Crohn’s disease, and other internal illnesses that do not respond to oral medications.
Other conditions include gastrointestinal diseases; dehydration resulting from nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea; and complex conditions like multiple sclerosis, certain forms of arthritis, congestive heart failure, and several immune deficiency disorders.
