An updated monovalent COVID-19 vaccine, which has been developed for protection against newer strains of the virus, is expected to be approved by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in mid-September 2023. Once approved, this vaccine will become available to all patients ages 6 months and older.
What’s different about the new vaccine?
As the virus evolves, so does the efficacy of a vaccine. The new vaccine was developed to better protect against new strains of the virus. The new vaccine has been effective in preventing and/or reducing severity of infection with the omicron and eris variants.
Do I still need to get the latest shot if I’ve already been vaccinated?
Yes, the CDC recommends that all eligible people receive the updated vaccine, regardless of their previous vaccination status. As winter and respiratory illness season approaches, it’s important to stay protected against serious illnesses like COVID-19, especially if you are in a high-risk category.
What if I don’t have insurance?
Beginning October 2023, CMH will no longer be offering free COVID-19 vaccines. All COVID-19 vaccines will be billed to the patient’s insurance like any other vaccine. If you don’t have insurance, there are still options for your to receive the vaccine! Local pharmacies and the Carlton County Health Department offer the vaccine at no cost.
Should my child receive the vaccine?
